Inauguration of the New Academic Year, 2016/2017 (Kharkiv)

The three arms of St. Thomas Aquinas catholic students’ fellowship Kharkov – African-English, Asian-English, and African-French gathered on the 16^th of October, 2016 to inaugurate the new academic year 2016/2017. It was the mission Sunday of the Roman Catholic Church. The mass was graced by the official visit of Fr. Richard Diala, C.M., the mission superior for Europe and Grenada, province of Nigeria.

The mass began with the official presentation of flags from countries of the student members. A total of 21 countries of Asia and Africa was represented. The high point of the celebration was the official handing on of pens to the students as a symbol of the academic pursuit that brought them to Ukraine. This was done by the priests working with them in the parish.

In his homily, Fr Richard made the students to understand the missionary aspect of the service rendered to them by the Vincentians. He urged them to always appreciate the efforts of their priests – Frs Jan, Anthony, Petro and Sherin. There was presentations of dances and songs from the groups. It was a lovely celebration as the students look up to a conducive atmosphere for study in the academic.
