Warming Room for homeless at Kyiv railway station

On November 24, 2015, a warming center was opened with the support of the Kyiv railway station administration and All-Ukrainian Charitable Foundation “Depaul Ukraine”.

Negotiations lasted for about one month. Thanks God, we have managed to open this Room, and now we can help people overcome temporary challenges in their life, warm them up in frosty winter nights, feed them, shortly speaking – meet the simplest human needs. As the Church teaches us, we should see Jesus Christ in every person, and especially in those who found themselves at the very bottom of social life!

With God’s help, we have been working for 2.5 month already!

Every night we receive about 70-80 persons of no fixed abode and give them hot tea and sandwiches. We are very happy to have caring people who help us: Sisters of the Miraculous Medal, Missionary Fathers of St. Vincent de Paul, volunteers and benefactors. Separate thanks go to ethno-café Kiflyk for gratuitously cooking every Friday delicious hot dinners for the homeless, and each time it is something new and tasty (Hungarian soup called bograch, soup, porridge, potatoes, etc.).

During that time about 300 people have got their temporary refuge in the warming center, and 5 of them have already received assistance in making way back to their homes. Every person in need has been granted necessary clothes and shoes!

It is very pleasant to see grateful smiles on faces of those who consider themselves rejected and who have lost all their faith and hope – it inspires us to undertaking new steps and projects to help the homeless and people in need!

Yours faithfully,
Responsible volunteer at “Depaul Ukraine”
