Association Miraculous Medallion

The Association of the Miraculous Medal is a living and perpetual reminder about Virgin Mary’s apparition in 1830. Pope Pius X officially approved the AMM as an organization in 1909. It has been active in Ukraine since 2008.

Goals of the Association of the Miraculous Medal

  • sticking to the road of Jesus Christ accompanied by the Holy Spirit and following the example of the Virgin Mary;
  • spreading the Marian spirituality through the Miraculous Medal;
  • sanctifying spiritual life through the Sacrament of Eucharist;
  • practical service and evangelization (every country carries out the service in its own way).

What is the history of the Miraculous Medal?

On November 27, 1830, in a chapel of the Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul in Paris, the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared to Sister Catherine Laboure. The Mother of God was holding the terrestrial ball in Her hands. “The globe you see, the Virgin Mary said, stands for the whole world and every human being in particular.” Precious stones were shining from the finger-rings on Her hands. This shining, as She said, “is a symbol of mercy I grant to those who ask me for it; the stones that do not shine are the graces for which people do not ask.” An oval frame formed around the Virgin Mary on which there was an inscription written in golden letters that read: O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee.”

Then Sister Catherine heard the following words: “Have a Medal struck after this model. All who wear it will receive great graces; they should wear it around the neck. Graces will abound for persons who wear it with confidence.”

After that St. Catherine saw a large letter M on the reverse side. A cross stood high above it, under which the Sacred Heart of Jesus entwisted with the crown of thorns and the Sacred Heart of Mary pierced with a sword were pictured. 12 stars illuminated this image.

Why is the Medal called Miraculous?

People began to receive numerous graces through the Medal of the Immaculate Conception. There were miracles:

  • unexpected healings;
  • protection of soul and body in danger;
  • unusual conversions.

For this reason, it was soon called the “Miraculous Medal”.

What does wearing the Miraculous Medal mean these days?

Wearing the Miraculous Medal means entrusting one’s life and death to the guardianship of the Immaculate Virgin Mary. The Virgin Mary promised to beg God for necessary graces for everyone who would wear the Medal and pray every day: “O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee.”

So, always wear the Miraculous Medal with confidence and make sure that others wear it as well.
