The Feast of the Miraculous Medal (Kyiv)

On November 27, the entire Vincentian Family around the world celebrates the feast of the Miraculous Medal of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The history of the medal is known to all of us – the Virgin Mary appeared to Sister Catherine Laboure in 1830 during an apparition. The Blessed Mother held a globe in her hands. “The globe is the whole world and every person individually”… Precious stones shone from the rings on her fingers. This radiance, as she said, “is a symbol of the mercy that I give to those who ask for it; the stones that do not shine are graces that people do not ask for.” An oval frame formed around the Blessed Mother, on which in golden letters was written: “O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee.” Sister Catherine heard the words: “Let a medal be struck according to this model. Those who wear it will receive special graces. Those who wear it with confidence will receive the fullness of graces.”

Almost everyone present at the solemn Mass had these small medals – a symbol of trust and love for the Blessed Mother. During the Holy Mass, prayers were offered for peace in Ukraine, for victory, for all our defenders, and also for the Sisters of Mary of the Miraculous Medal – they distribute medals among the townspeople, the sick and the poor whom they serve, among those affected by war, among the military, among volunteers – thus evangelizing the world and spreading the good news of salvation.

After the Holy Mass, everyone gathered for an agape, where they could personally greet the sisters and talk among themselves – during wartime, such meetings are special for each of us.
