The missionary Sunday in the Parish of St. Vincent de Paul in Kharkiv traditionally marks the start of a new academic year for our parishioners – foreign students coming from Africa and Asia. That year, Archbishop Claudio Gugerotti, Apostolic Nuncio to Ukraine, was the honorary guest of the meeting on September 20, 2019. So, all prayer of the Sunday Mass was filled with joy, extraordinary solemnity and positive heart openness of the honorary guest. In his sermon for the youth, Archbishop Claudio Gugerotti put a special emphasis on the Second Reading and invited everyone to cultivate those gifts we had received. The Archbishop also pointed out he saw the students felt at home in our parish and in the church. He reassured everyone in Pope Francis’s proximity to us and asked us to pray for the Pontific, for the Holy Father repeatedly said: “Pray for me!”
The peculiarity of the Liturgy was the presentation of 21 national flags of the countries represented by foreign students in our parish as well as pens blessing ceremony which followed after it. At the end of the Mass, everyone received a papal blessing.
