About IX Pilgrimage to the Tomb of Blessed Marta Wiecka (26-27 May, 2018)

Another pilgrimage of the Vincentian Family to the Tomb of Blessed Marta Wiecka took place on May 26-27, 2018 in Sniatyn, Ivano-Frankivsk region, in Ukraine. The solemnity was associated with giving thanks for the gift of the 10th anniversary of Marta Wiecka’s beatification. Pilgrims from all over Ukraine as well as from Poland, Slovakia, Germany, Italy, Romania and other countries assembled together to celebrate that event.

We are grateful to God for the meeting which united us even more. Common prayers, solemn Eucharist, evening adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, work in groups, reflections over the words the Holy Father addressed to members of the Vincentian Family a year before in Rome at the Symposium, encounters, endless talks as well as experience exchange of serving our neighbors – those were just some points in our program which enriched us mutually.

However, it was the Tomb of the “Mother” that became the most significant place to many pilgrims. It was there that all of them came to deliver to God Almighty, through her intersession, their intensions, pleads, tough life situations and, humanly speaking, sometimes even no-win situations. Moreover, there were such people who, while bearing their own intensions, also delivered begs of those who could not be present there personally. There was an extraordinary moment when, after a long and concentrated prayer at the Tomb, a woman phoned someone saying: “I am at the Tomb of Blessed Marta – so, speak to her personally now,” and not ending her phone call she stretched her hand with a cell phone towards the Tomb… There are no borders and no obstacles for the faith. There were also words of gratitude said for received graces and healings.

On May 26, 2018 Lviv Archbishop Mechyslav Mokshytskyi declared a parish Church to be the Sanctuary of Blessed Marta Wiecka and, accompanied by representatives of local authorities, unveiled a memorial tablet in the Sniatyn hospital where Bl. Sister Marta used to serve and sacrificed her life for her neighbor.

At the end of the pilgrimage, Fr. Jan Trzop, CM, Superior of the Vice-Province of the Congregation of the Mission in Ukraine, underlined that such meetings were that spark which should ignite us daily to choose good and struggle for that good.

Our great thanks go to Radio Maria for broadcasting the Sunday Liturgy, which made it possible for everyone, who could not make it to the pilgrimage physically, to experience it along with us.

Blessed Sister Marta, pray for us!
