Association of the Miraculous Medal on pilgrimage in Zarvanytsia

Members of the Association of Kyiv city planned to go on a pilgrimage to Zarvanytsia during several years, it is also known as Ukrainian Lourdes – the largest sanctuary of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church. Due to various circumstances the trip was delayed, but this year a miracle happened and July 15-16 Marian Sisters of the Miraculous Medal from Kyiv and Zakarpattia, members of Association of the Miraculous Medal and Fr. Michael Talapkanych of the Congregation of the Mission went to this sanctuary. Yearly about 100 000 pilgrims from different parts of Ukraine come to Zarvanytsia to pray, to ask for grace, donating their time and prayers …

This year’s pilgrimage was dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the coronation of Zarvanytsia miraculous icon of Virgin Mary and to the 125th anniversary of the birth of Patriarch Joseph Slipyi. The pilgrims prayed for peace and integrity of Ukraine. Head of Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church Sviatoslav Shevchuk, prefect of Congregation for the Oriental Churches cardinal Leonardo Sandri, Apostolic Nuncio in Ukraine Claudio Gugerotti and archbishop and metropolitan Ivan Devchich from Croatia prayed to God together with the faithful.

After greeting of honorary guests a message about the Immaculate Virgin Mary and her medal here in Zarvanytsia was presented by members of the Association of the Miraculous Medal in Ukraine. They were preparing for the trip for almost two months – volunteers tied the thread to each medal, so it could be worn immediately on the neck after receiving it.

During 15 minutes presentation on the Revelation on the rue Du Bac in Paris by Fr. Michael the pilgrims learned about the Miraculous Medal. People were very interested in the medal and there were a lot of people willing to get it.

Over two days 48000 medals were distributed. Also, many pilgrims came to the Association, and many pilgrims were taken home these little medals giving great hope and grace for their relatives, friends and acquaintances.

Thanks to the organizers who gave us such an opportunity to be together with pilgrims during these days and to distribute medals.

We pray together “O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee!” Mary wants to help us asking for the grace of her Son! Let’s join the mission of the Immaculate with all our hearts!
