Renewal of Missions in Vynohradiv

There were missions held by Fr. Stanislav Irisik and Fr. Olexandr Hurski, Missionaries of St. Vincent (Lazarists) and S. Miriam Novitska and S. Clara Partem, Congregation of the Sisters of Mercy of St. Vincent  of Eastern Rite in Vynohradiv from February 25 to March 5, 2017 in the parish of the Dormition of Blessed Virgin Mary.

In their missionary sermons fathers emphasized on the general confession, that is the confession of all sins of a lifetime, reminding the faithful of the incident of the life of St. Vincent, when before his death he heard confession of the man, known by everyone as virtuous, but who confessed to St. Vincent that many years ago during the confession he concealed a sin. The fathers recalled God’s mercy and love and also paid attention to the importance of prayer in the life of a Christian.

The parishioners could seek the grace of a good confession and pray for his patronage in front of the relics of St. Vincent, which were exhibited in the church for worship for the whole time of missions.

During missions the fathers blessed children and young people, widowed people, prayed for mothers who are expecting a baby and women who are seeking maternity. Married couples also had the opportunity to renew their marital promises before the whole Church.

Probably according to a special God’s plan, missions in the parish coincided with the pilgrimage of the relics of the Blessed Martha Vetska. Fr. Serhii (Congregation of the Missionaries of St. Vincent de Paul) and S. Catherine (Sisters of Mercy of St. Vincent de Paul of the Latin Rite) arrived in the pilgrimage group. Thus, the representatives of the three branches of the Vincentian Family gathered in one place, which very clearly testified the unity of Christ’s love.

The faithful could learn from the sermon of Fr. Serhii the sacred life of the Reverend Martha and the example of her mercy, to honor the relicts of the ascetic seeking her patronage in the face of the Lord.

During the missions fathers and sisters also told about the history of the Miraculous Medal and distributed these medals to all who wanted to wear them and pray to the Blessed Virgin Mary. Many parishioners have expressed their desire to join the Association of the Miraculous Medal.

Sisters Miriam and Clara helped fathers with catechizing children and youth, visiting sick people in their homes, preparing them for confession.

As soon as missions were held on the first week of the Great Lent, in Sunday, which is called the Sunday of Forgiveness in the eastern tradition, sisters conducted a prayer Taize for young people with meditations and insights on the topic of forgiveness, and on Tuesday we prayed the Slavish Canon of Andrei Cretan with the laity.

We are sincerely grateful to the father of the parish Myroslav Sipko and Father Augustine Sokol for the warm reception in their parish and fruitful cooperation, as well as to Ms. Emma, who serving the ministry of Martha cared with all diligence about the living conditions of the missionaries.

May the All-merciful Lord generously reward you and give His grace for you all

Clara Partem
