Day 14, July 10: Vincentian Family Mass

Today is a free day for the assembly. But before heading off to explore Chicago or get some well-needed rest, the members of the assembly joined the parishioners of St. Vincent de Paul Parish and the Vincentian Family of Chicago at the celebration of Sunday mass. Fr. Tomaz presided, and Fr. Greg Gay and Fr. Joe Agostino, director of the Vincentian Family Office, were the main concelebrants. Music at the mass was a mixture of liturgical music from both Vincentian and Chicago authors. During his homily, Fr. Tomaz called on all members of the Vincentian Family – those who belong to a specific branch and those who do not, but live the charism – to go out and change the world. He called for further collaboration between members to “build the Kingdom together, as a family! This is the only way forward and the way for effective and lasting results!” He reminded us of the need to develop the five Vincentian virtues – simplicity, humility, meekness, giving of oneself (mortification or sacrifice) and zeal – to continue the mission of Vincent, the mission of Jesus.

After mass, the parish hosted a reception for all those present. Tomorrow the assembly will begin discussions on the final document.
