A meeting of seminarians with Fr. Brian Kolodiejchuk

“If you are kind, people may accuse you of ulterior motives. Be kind anyway.” St.  Mother Teresa

A meeting of seminarians with Fr. Brian Kolodiejchuk, priest with Ukrainian roots, postulator of the canonization process of St. Mother Teresa of Calcutta, took place on April 29, 2018 at Redemptoris Mater Seminary in Kyiv. Seminarians of the Congregation of the Mission and those of Kyiv-Zhytomyr Diocese arrived for the meeting.

Fr. Brian is one of those people who personally knew St. Mother Teresa. He had been working together with her for almost 20 years. So, he shared his experience of meeting St. Teresa and talked about the book he had composed. It is a collected volume edited by him and titled Come Be My Light. It is a collection of letters by Mother Teresa which she had been written over a span of 66 years. In such a way, Fr. Brian showed the way St. Teresa lived and her tremendous love to Our Lord and her neighbors, underlined her caring attitude to the situation in the world and in the Church. One of outstanding facts Fr. Brian talked about was that St. Teresa was always a smiling person, overfilled with happiness which Our Lord Himself poured into her heart. In addition, she would never keep that joy to herself, but rather share it with others. The same thing she taught to her sisters whom she united around Our Lord and the poor. His main message for the seminarians were the words which St. Teresa said to bishops and cardinals in Rome: “Give us holy priests!”

After the conference, everyone had a chance to put a question to Fr. Brian, and one of them sounded like that: “What Mother Teresa would like to tell us today?” Fr. Brian smiled at that question and said: “Probably, she would like us to be joyful and holy.”  We thank God and Fr. Brian for meeting us and showing us even closer the person of a great saint who Mother Teresa of Calcutta is.
